Leading and managing in today’s business environment is complex. This module addresses the needs of executives in today’s dynamic environment and focuses on strategic leadership in the context of complexity and change. This module reviews the origins and history of leadership thinking in order to provide a foundation to understanding contemporary leadership theory. The pivotal role of the senior leader in the process of understanding and shaping of organisational culture is supported by key leadership tools and skills including: the identification of different types of leadership problems and approaches to solving them; understanding and making sense of change; and the leaders role in power, politics, ethics and diversity and sustainability.

This module explores how organisations can build operations management and supply chains in a sustainable way that help to deliver the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

This module provides you with knowledge and critical understanding of the requirements of the international GAAP allowing you to prepare non-group and basic group financial statements. The module explores how such financial statements may be analysed and interpreted for the management and running of companies and introduces you to measurement models and the conceptual framework adopted by the IASB.

Strategic marketing is central to enabling an organisation to respond to a dynamic global marketplace. It is the activity which determines and prioritises all other marketing tasks and as such is arguably the core marketing activity. This module will provide an overview of strategic marketing, the decisions, processes and frameworks involved and considers the implementation of these tools and activities in various organisational contexts, with due consideration of challenges of operating at a global level. In working through these topics the module will consider ways in which organisations might best respond as they seek to develop a strong and sustainable position through careful identification of target markets and creation of competitive advantage.

Modern organisations are both complex in nature and have to compete in an ever-changing and challenging environment. Senior managers and leaders need to be able to understand and apply a number of concepts, models and theories that minimise threats and maximise opportunities. This module explores a range of key issues within organisations and includes: the study of organisation structures and forms; human resource management issues, organisational behaviour and the role of individuals, groups and teams; understanding and managing a wide range of stakeholders; corporate social responsibility; corporate governance; sustainability and business continuity; and risk and risk management.

An understanding of sustainability allows us to recognise why our ability to prosper now and in the future requires attention not just to economic and social progress but also conserving (and enhancing) the natural environment. There has never been a more important time to understand how government, industry and society can respond to this challenge. This module looks at the bigger picture but focuses on how companies can respond by changing what they are doing – both strategically and operationally – to gain or maintain a competitive advantage whilst improving their sustainability performance.

The research methods module will develop your analytical and research skills to develop competencies to assist in writing your research dissertation, and for future work-based research or consultancy work. The module provides the essential guidance in conducting the research and problem-solving activities that you will undertake as part of your summative dissertation. The module includes how to scope a research project, exploring underlying assumptions, designing an appropriate methodological approach and examining the ethical concerns of any research project. The module will enable you to examine and apply appropriate paradigms for your sector and context, develop knowledge of the various research styles available to researchers, and explore epistemological rationales and ethical implications. In doing so you will develop an understanding of the potential strengths and weaknesses of each research style so as to enable the critical selection and use of the most appropriate research style, in the light of your chosen dissertation project.

By studying this module you will gain key insights into the key roles that will be played by the capital markets and financial services firms such as banks and insurance companies in transitioning to a sustainable world. This module also examines the key scientific evidence behind climate change as well as the key factors that are causing climate change. This module will then go on to consider some of the unique financial products which have been developed to mitigate the impact of climate change such as green bonds.

The abilities to assimilate data, work as a team and problem solve are fundamental to any career development. In this module you will work as a member of a team to analyse and consider scientific, political, management and ethical issues relating to problems in the environmental sustainability and green technology sectors. This will entail you reviewing several case studies and consulting widely. Furthermore, the module provides a framework through which you are encouraged to develop knowledge and confidence in assessing and evaluating complex and often conflicting information in ethical, economic, social, political, physical and scientific contexts.

This module aims to provide an opportunity for you to undertake a substantial piece of independent research in your chosen subject area. Based on a research proposal, the dissertation gives you the opportunity to enact the designed and approved project. The dissertation forms a substantial part of the overall study leading to the award of the MSc in Management and it should draw on the intellectual and analytical skills and knowledge developed during the course. The module also provides an opportunity for you to develop your interests in a particular area and to demonstrate an ability to undertake individual, independent research.
